What's new — 29th September 2026

This article covers updates between 22nd September 2026 and 29th September 2026 (v3.53 to v3.54). It also covers the Limited Availability features previewed in 'What's coming — 29th September 2026', which are now live.

Highlights

A new Definely interface

Definely has a new look across Read, Proof, Enhance, Cascade and Vault. The new design uses Definely's brand colours, a refreshed Light theme and a lighter palette in the reports, and the layout is cleaner and more consistent across products.

Read

  • Defined term and clause cards have more room.

  • The actions you can take sit at the bottom of each card, separate from search and navigation.

  • Filtering in the Definition Report now lives in a single panel.

  • You choose what to export from the Reference Report with checkboxes.

Across the add-in

  • A permanent rescan control lets you refresh Definely's view of your document whenever you like, rather than waiting for a prompt.

  • The add-in uses UK or US English to match your document's language setting.

Enhance

  • You can start a new chat and go back to previous ones.

Undo Jump

Never lose your place in the document. When you use a Jump to location button in Read, Proof or Cascade, Definely shows an Undo Jump button at the bottom of your screen. Clicking it takes you back to exactly where you were when you first pressed a navigation button.

It doesn't matter if you chain several navigations together, or scroll through the document along the way. Undo Jump always returns you to where you started reading.

Text Inserts by Enhance

Enhance's editing engine has been rebuilt. Before Enhance makes any change, it now shows a proposal card with a redline preview of what it's about to insert. You can see the intent and choose whether to proceed, and nothing touches your document until you accept.

Full changelog

Global

Look and feel

  • The interface has been redesigned using Definely's new brand colours.

  • The Light theme has been refreshed, and the number of available themes has been reduced.

  • The reports use a lighter, less saturated colour palette.

Rescanning

  • A permanent rescan control is always available. Previously, a rescan banner only appeared after a paragraph changed.

  • The idle-scan popover no longer says there are no changes when there are.

Other

  • Toast notifications appear at the bottom of the pane.

  • Jump to location buttons use an up-left arrow (↖) and show a Jump to location tooltip on hover.

  • In Read and Proof, global search is now a dropdown labelled global search, replacing the unlabelled toggle. Each option describes what it searches, and the current setting is easier to see.

  • Long clause, definition and text results in Read, Cascade and Vault can be expanded into a full reading sheet instead of being cut short in the side panel. Defined terms inside the expanded text stay clickable, and the sheet closes automatically when you open a term.

  • The add-in's text switches between UK and US English based on your Word document's language setting, instead of always using one spelling.

  • In Settings, you can download a bug report or copy it to your clipboard to send to Definely Support.

Read

Undo Jump

  • After using Jump to location from a definition or clause card, Undo Jump returns you to where you were reading.

  • Onboarding tooltips explain the Jump to location and Undo Jump actions the first time you see them.

  • When a toast appears, it stacks above the Undo Jump button instead of covering it.

Home

  • Defined term and clause cards have more space.

  • The Show more button is more clearly labelled.

  • The Matching Case(s) dropdown has been replaced with a three-dot menu.

  • Highlights on cards appear as underlines, matching how terms are marked in the document.

  • After you edit the document, cards show that they're updating, instead of freezing for a second or two and then changing abruptly.

Home and Definition Report

  • The actions you can take sit at the bottom of the card, separate from search and navigation.

  • The locations where a term is referenced are listed under Occurrences.

  • Definition card buttons (Amend, Replace, Insert, Delete) are now the same in both places, including for undefined terms.

Definition Report and Reference Report

  • Clicking a card or row title no longer opens it in Home. The header now only expands or collapses the item, and a separate Open in Read button sits alongside the Bookmark and Jump to location buttons.

  • The filter and sort control turns grey and shows the selected value when a filter or sort is applied.

Definition Report only

  • Card tags (such as Defined, Undefined and Unused) are colour-coded.

  • The separate defined / undefined / unused toggle tray is now part of a single filter panel. The filtering is the same, with one place to do it.

  • Delete all unused is available under every filter. Previously it only appeared when you'd made a selection or filtered to unused terms.

Reference Report only

  • Exporting selected rows is now opt-in via checkboxes. If you don't select any rows, everything is exported.

Fixes

  • When a clicked reference matches more than one target (for example several "Part I"s), the dialog now explains that there are multiple references with that title and asks you to choose which to open.

  • The dialog's Apply all button has been renamed to describe what it does: opening the selected references.

Proof

  • Filter and Select work the same way as in Read.

  • Issue categories are collapsible cards showing a total issue count.

  • The cross-reference picker opens in a panel from the bottom of the pane instead of a pop-up dialog.

  • Undo Jump is available after using Jump to location from Proof.

  • Otherwise, the changes to Proof are visual only.

Enhance

Chat

  • Enhance has a button to start a new chat and a button to view your previous chats. Previously, the only control was the one to link documents, which is still available.

  • Responses have a copy-to-clipboard button, which confirms with a toast when you use it.

  • The thumbs up / thumbs down buttons have been removed.

  • If a thread has been deleted under your firm's data-retention policy, you see a clear message saying so instead of a generic error.

  • If a response fails or comes back empty, Enhance shows a visible error and a toast instead of failing silently.

Text Inserts

  • When Enhance proposes new text, it shows a proposal card with the current text, the proposed insertion and a redline.

  • Accept and Reject buttons on each card let you decide.

  • Nothing is written to the document until you accept.

Fixes

  • Asking Enhance to add a sub-clause (for example 18.5.1 under 18.5) now inserts it one level below its parent. Previously, it could land as a sibling (18.6) and renumber everything after it.

  • Definitions inserted by Enhance are placed more reliably.

  • The chat stays pinned to the latest message while a response streams in, and pins again when you scroll back to the bottom.

Cascade

  • Undo Jump is available after using Jump to location from Cascade.

  • Otherwise, the changes to Cascade are visual only.

Vault

  • You can view the items you've bookmarked.

  • On the Personal Vault tab, the Details button opens the document's details. When a document has no metadata, the button is greyed out and a tooltip explains why.

  • Inserting a definition from Vault uses the same full-panel steps as Read.

  • Otherwise, the changes to Vault are visual only.

Fixes

  • Custom-field filtering for your document management system now works in the Word add-in, matching the desktop add-in.
